always out of reach
the best apples and plums
high summer
purpling in plums
and apples piled up high
summer is leaving
autocorrect
  writing haiku
    thank you
both smoothing the cat
sitting at the eve of time
the pharaohs
how cold
the lights on the black water
fishing in thought
as the seasons turn
leaves in summer’s open grave
genuflect to spring

hut with no lights
is anyone there to see
- me
autumn whispering
on the nape of my neck
come now
what did you just say?
then i will be when i’m dead -
you would wouldn’t you
the bone is still raw
even without any meat
wild dogs
rising westerlies
storm sea surge in rolling roils
kneading the clouds
this magic stone
the one with the kiss inside
yours forever

caterpillars
eating my nasturtiums
recycled colours
under a shushed moon
a snowflake on the deer’s nose
melts my heart
dispirited kids
smart phone social media
exorcising minds

how many light bulbs
does it take to change a man?
oh come on!
wrapped
in conversation
with silence
as the creaks enfold
the house settles for the night
blinking owls
summer days shorten
the tumbling path from harvest
bitter-sweet memories
when you are not here
what do i fill the space with
your remembering
late summer
nights of far away fires
passionately
how often do dreams
end in the death of that day
deepening in snow
sedum blooming
summer ending
goodbye butterfly
dark urine lamplight
shadowing me back to bed
and love’s bright dream
not killing spiders
i find just this big one
killing spiders
my dog is dead the
old woman tells the flowers
nodding

fleet of flotsam
footprints along
the moonlight
woman the shape of love’s drawn dream
incanting lonely
nothing is worth the saying
to the moon’s cold stare
love’s blue potion you are not
forgotten mourning
loneliness
nothing is worth the saying
under moon’s cold stare
wrapped in silence
dripping river of thoughts
weeping willow why
Sunday sleeping on
hushed garden all pastel shades
bees on tiptoe please

summer night
discordant music
a barking dog
just loneliness
shadows that never reply
the lamp dims
where did the years go
seventeen kissing seventy
times
one boat
seven seas
memories
cacophony
matchstick silhouettes
hot beach
sparkling
the high seas
summering
moonlight
on the sea of my tea
ceremony
the sea
my tea
sparkling
summer
under spreading chestnut tree
respite
higher higher
the child learns to swing
the sky’s the limit
smile little one
we are destroying the world
no stopping now!
crescendo
the cat’s ears flick
we snooze
the cat and I
floating on the music
fast asleep
suncream and
sandwiches on the beach
tomatoes
lavender
springboard to summer
blues
stairs
to the stars
dreams

sake and moonlight
how the spirit moves them
the master’s pupils

the poets sit
composing themselves
the sake flows

poets long walk home
drinking sake and moonlight
the spirit moves them

drinking rice wine
the poets under the willow
weeping

drinking sake
the ghostwriter’s words
rattle the shōji

dry bugs of summer
where is your comfy home
thinking of winter
the learned poets
are talking amongst themselves
bemused we walk past
early to bed
haiku swarming
put the light out
leaf chasing itself
in a hot august corner
time slipping away
scuffed knees running
in the heat from the dried grass
back to my childhood
starting finishing
the lineage of the poets
full stop
in the mirror
i see the poets behind me
handing me the pen
climbing the mountain
the poets roped together
snow in the pass tense
the grey haired poets
disappear into the snow
climbing their mountain
backscratcher
the old man eases
the itch of youth
bath bed book
the cat composes haiku
i smooth it down
the metronome slows
with the cat’s closing eyes
purr ing stop ping
not so august
just watered the potted plants
heavy rain
torn flagged lancers
grassing the marching dunes
autumn in full flight
where the wind has gone
the grass struggles to follow
shreds of autumn
the dark chocolate
and the blackest of coffee
write a light poem
the ornate mansion
social climbing weekends
staring at the stairs

you tell me that this
tweet is unavailable
who the hell are you
how many cold tears
upon how many full moons
long past caring
comes dawn the bone fox
trotting foxily home
evening all

wind chimes
just far enough away
lowing in the breeze
one leg on shore
the other leg in the boat
summer pulls away
self-replicating
why do we obsess at all
the end is the end
the journey of many paths
arrives at nothing at all
high temple bells
hold the tenure of the wind
the forbidden way
long love lost
a bruise upon a bruise
sayonara
so slow dusk is set
by lavender’s wind chime hands
lovers far apart
a cat restless wind
in autumn rumours whispered
garden of last smiles
august evening
the cat under her blanket
turning with summer
shake their hive
the wasps will buzz like as not
smash their hive
and the wasps will be furious
then they will die like as not
windfall summer days
apples under the rhubarb
surprise spies
