storm beach
as the tide retreats
the moonstones chatter
springtime
has the frogspawn arrived
let’s go and look
so many palaces
that yesteryear has ruined
human nature
the cat unfurling
along with the log fire ash
snow accumulates
global warming‬
‪the oscillation of seasons‬
‪you might get it‬
‪but then again you might not‬
‪it all depends on the mood‬ it’s in

wind screen wipe ears
the metronome of slices
black sleet

‪regale‬
‪the caught breath of wind in grass‬
‪playing the fool‬

Wednesday, 29 January 2020

sunshine
after a cold swim
red skin
king rat
soaring with the eagle
sunset claws
calm pool
i throw a stone
into the sky
jigsaw
at last the peace of mind
that was missing
the wind has lost it
turning things over and over
it keeps on searching
hammering a nail
thoughts falling into place
temples of the mind
dawn
a bird crosses the sun
the wall jumps

global warming
all the red pens are sold out
and we get the blues
black sky
freezing white surf
reincarnation
snow and mountains
reflecting upon a reflection
do i exist
snow‬
‪a blizzard of pictures‬
‪settles it‬
‪dead right‬
‪knew that one day i would be
‪a prophet‬

Monday, 27 January 2020

reading haiku
nothing else i write
matters more
holocaust ‬virus
‪ashamed to be human‬
‪no one is immune ‬
hail morning - well wet - sun sleet sea

Sunday, 26 January 2020

spider
walking the art gallery
eyes everywhere
my hand on the cat
her tail tells me everything
i don’t know
the knife
sharpening a pencil
writes
broken line
two sides of a thought
rippling
face masks
frowns go viral
smiles not
widening ripples-
a heron’s reflection
becomes a snake

Saturday, 25 January 2020

leaving the sea
my knees are blue
my mind is not
seeing the stream
i throw a stone
into the sky
adolescence
adrift upon the music
of a late night
‪buried dingle deep ‬
‪a pebble in a brook‬
‪dancing sunbeams‬

Friday, 24 January 2020

a gravestone
another gravestone
not talking
soft music
hypnotic log fire
pussy cat
you are feeling sleepy
i am feeling sleepy
winter
cobwebs on the propeller
spring tide
misty morning
a shiny hearse passes
no coughing
fog
taking my urine to clinic
cloudy frown

PS: not really mine

whore frost
her siren heart of stone
false spring

Thursday, 23 January 2020

another thread
brushed from life’s overcoat
heavy snow again
this mortuary mist
dragging upon the cellared trees
in cobwebbed down
smiling
for the camera
obituary
turned down
like the corner of a page
ticked off
beer can
rolling down the street
spilling the wind

Wednesday, 22 January 2020

listen
january is so cold
midnight moon
ashes glow
haydn fades away
good night
snow
the white picket fence
turns grey
i gave her
my haiku pebbles
sea stole my heart
‪no one laughed when the comedian died‬
stone epitaphs
my tomb is bigger than yours
all are dead
the snail
ate the rejection letter
thickening its shell

Tuesday, 21 January 2020

dawn is urging
a new moon through still trees
the yard turns to gold
the whore frost
bites the hands that caress
and is gone

Sunday, 19 January 2020

autumn’s tears
upon a shroud
of cherry kisses
map of tears
on life’s cold lonely pillow
a volcano stirs
flood tide
the river overflows
my held breath
‪this cleft of heaven ‬
‪holding half winter half spring ‬
‪on frosty sun wolds ‬
a question
questioning the answer
to a question

Saturday, 18 January 2020

winter bites at
the bottom of my rice bowl
only tears

Friday, 17 January 2020

shadows
running across the tracks
into sidings
illegitimate
the sea a real bastard
thought
snow
just clinging on
my village
last night
oh yes i slept on the moon
you wish
it’s all light
as dawn’s room slowly warms
the ink dries

‪always the bleeding ‬
‪along the sea’s vast travail‬
‪until the moon runs‬

leaves
falling for a photo
of autumn

could i order

a dew starter
dressed with a breeze of bees
and bluebell fountains

sunset periwinkles
fried in an indigo sauce
over a tiara horizon

a full-bodied blue moon
warm cream in sundown skies
a whispered i love you

across clotted time
a glass of you are mine wine
all entwined in treacle eyes

Wednesday, 15 January 2020

trees ghosting into
the paleness the nothing
of frost’s breath
when the earth burns
will the moon laugh or cry
we’ll never know
driptych

silence
the perturbations of self
laid low

fiction
walking down the alley
of the heart’s fire

smoothing the cat
slower and slower until
her tail sleeps

Tuesday, 14 January 2020

then there is a line
startled you are hooked
baited by the light

Monday, 13 January 2020

errant sky
erasing snow’s footprints
lost at last
all at sea
the sparkle in my eye
this salty cheek

Sunday, 12 January 2020

when
my cat is considering
me
i consider myself
to be an idiot
if you ask the storm
why are the walls weeping
it will lie to you

gale faced
chest first into the waves
take that
‪sea swimmers‬
‪feel and fear the currents‬
‪in the tides of life‬
skate marks
upon the ice of life
deep fish
haiku
post-it notes
with superglue
a poet’s lifespan
already overdue
i close my book

Friday, 10 January 2020

all the poets
in the secondhand book store
shelved A to Z
where is my shrine
in this busy busy world
where no time shrines
the sea is just there
there is no reason why
the sea is just there
jargon
tumbrels of clichés
blindfolded
charity shop
all the poets in the alphabet
c for cheap
plink plink plink
an afternoon of rain
plink plink plink

Thursday, 9 January 2020

climbing
a mountain on quicksand
poetry
after the storm
the uplifting silence
of blue
moonshine
over the ice pool
tears of joy

Wednesday, 8 January 2020

long tailed tits
tickling the sunshine in
the corkscrew hazel
upon a sunbeam
the cat and i and haydn
seek
january
listening to haydn
the cat and i
double yellow lines
suburban anarchy
the bastards
10 o’clock squint
the sun breaks through
ahh january

Tuesday, 7 January 2020

the old songs
i drift back to my childhood
and beyond
poet’s hermitage
pilgrims looking for clues
are clueless
pebble faces
people i have never met
on this storm beach

pebbles with faces
upon a storm beach rolling
in conversation

excoriating
the sea reclaims the fossils
pebbles become sand
on a mountain top
the night beneath the moon
enshrined

Monday, 6 January 2020

restless owl
why do you ask how how
now you know how
this mist this shroud
upon the wind’s last sigh
slips the mountainside
in the sea’s requiem
whispered in the roaring surf
a mind can drown
the words
as slippery as an eel
plop

Sunday, 5 January 2020

dawn
pouring slowly -
now what

dawn
slowly colouring up
to the north wind

dawn
bare trees cracking up
the sky’s altar

Saturday, 4 January 2020

dreaming
i was dreaming
in a dream

Friday, 3 January 2020

microbiome
their teeny weeny bubbles
form a giant’s fart
noon day moon
gulls hang on the west wind
over the lighthouse
kitten
black fur and pink paws
playing asleep
clandestine
this false spring in winter
a pilot light
in the dead of night
candle burning in the dark
but its wick is short
knowing
in the glow of a log fire
the cat stands
‪sailboat dreams tethered‬
‪to the quaysides of the heart‬
‪trade winds of desire‬

all the world is in my head
and when i’m dead
it won’t be
new year plans
on the backest back burner
hope is simmering
the wren
busy pecking at nothing
sees everything
new year
the wren as busy as ever
gone in an instant
calendars burning
dateless days of destiny
ash upon the sea
new year - it’s like
snow falling on melting snow
all in the mind

new year
a kink on a sliding scale
misrule of thumb

new year
the same old moon forgets
its passing
