 olympics

the swimming commentator

wins gold

 rhossili boat house

private property no entry

oh yes!

so much seaweed

on a restless tide

stubbed toes

handholds

of all who pass this way

shinning

beyond the point

under a black seal sky

many white horses

bay of cleats

boats upside down

erosion of time

hot day

seagull thermals

flying ants

waiting for the tide

with the worm in my sight

no rush

worm’s head

the sound of the fury

uncovered

worm’s head

an ocean apart

these tides of thought

holding the sky

the worm’s head

unyielding

the sea has turned

upon the walking of a day

seals sleep on

        married

before you arrived

   after you left

 speak to your sea

send your kisses to my sea

how long is joined

 snores

a dog barking

midnight

 by the time

we understand sand

we’ll be under sand

 history

in hunting the future

is past tense

it is highly strung the say

as it should be they say

 reading with my cat

listening to the old songs

i write five haiku

 hot day

seagull thermals

flying ants

 inch by inch

after the storm has passed

lavender sun

 past wars

this concrete estuary

still waiting

      ~ sketch book ~

the wind turns the pages

 a butterfly

asking to be photographed

changes its mind

 sparrow hawk

into my morning thoughts

feathers fall

Wednesday, 28 July 2021

 to write haiku

requires a gentle mind

i berate myself

 to write haiku

requires a gentle mind

i berate myself

 tidal

a harbour of thoughts

waiting

 deep breath

for the storm is returning

fears in full-flood

 genuflecting

after torrential rain

lavender

 surprised

at finding a great poem

a poet cries

 on the back shelf

sits many a cool poem

open the fridge

 writing haiku

longing to write long-form

then haiku

 reading

about the poet’s journey

i shift my cushions

 stopped in

this pottery of autumns

the leaving remains

 how common is the

occurrence of rare events

extant extinction

the frog

jumps into the twitter stream

the sound of likes

feeling the bricks

the bonnet of her trowel’s

rumination

 across the pond

a frog of the western lands

turns into a prince

 restless wind

the field mouse eyes the sky

windfall apples

 that old song

i am sunk in the flowing

of the way it was

 extra blossom

appears on the old tree

bent wind

 the foggy forest

offering the man a stick

goes back to sleep

 vegetable plot

the old man is growing

 potty training

the anxious parents

never get it

 on an island

the coast goes right around

walking either way

 at no closed gate

will a cat’s mind tremble

horizons calling

 in a mind riven

excoriated by their tines

a river runs deep

 fools rush in

treading on the angels

who nursed the dead

 after waking up

the cat goes back to sleep

after sleeping

 what if

placed before a child

is an art

 on the cliff path

i met a heart lung surgeon

well you never know

 up in a tree

escaping from the bull

a boy’s summer

 meditation

barking dog

omm ~ omm ~ omm

 caught

in the web of time

my time

 nothing

is as eloquent

as a cat’s back

 advertising bright

in lonely downtown windows

hope (less)

 long wind

the golden grasses bend

fare you well

 statue

my eyes see

no eyes

little ant

your mount fiji

so impressive

 statue

my eyes rise

to no eyes

 finding a breeze

life becomes bearable

hot cat

 thermals

a feather fails to fall

hammock gazing

 petals

settling on blossom gazers

settling on petals

 goddamnit

it’s just the moon

these tears

Wednesday, 21 July 2021

 scorching day

the brand iron of a plaque

on a dead man’s seat

 bottom water

the moon a turn of phase

a reflection

 a limerick

cast out into the rain

cries me

 self-respect

is showing self-disrespect

are you aware

 three poppies

three flies

hot

Tuesday, 20 July 2021

 sea breezes

heavy with marijuana fumes

sea gulls reeling

 moon moon

ah ~ there you are

again

 the answer

found in the question

is the answer

 the cat’s accident

she hides herself away to die

and when she doesn’t

she comes back home

and eats her dinner

 the poet

how does he think those thoughts

i thought

and with that thought

i had written my first poem

and so here it is

for my next poem

i think i will think less

and write more or less

 to walk

and to find a haiku

this is life

 my poetry

no better than my ballet

gift horse

 open

the lavender

drifting in

 that space

beside the poet

just for me

 one breath

and the dawn

is yours

cat playing with a leaf moth bird

 priceless

the morning breeze

on a summer’s day

 meditation evening

the lawnmower starts

omm brrr omm brrr

 the living

are helped from the sea

the dead are pulled

 Buddha unmoved

yesterday two flowers

today three

 government

nothing mutates faster than

covid spin

 ha ha the crows

are cracking their morning

jokes ha ha

 children

with suffering in their eyes

ask the same question

 in reality

no one is interested

in who we are

 calm sea

swimming with my son

into the cove

Sunday, 18 July 2021

long night

murmuring town

hot wind

 drinking my coffee

the cat is a pussy nuisance

spilled words

Saturday, 17 July 2021

 do you ever think

someone somewhere out there

is building an ark

 the cat

is finding it warm

i know

 pebble

i am going

you remain

 haiku

saying nothing

meaningfully

 dreaming

in a blanket of flowers

next year is now

Friday, 16 July 2021

 from across the sea ~

you are very beautiful too

night night grandpa

 the long road

another step another

step another step

 it is so hard

to say nothing

in a meaningful way

 a cat and a fledgling

flowering water

in the passing clouds

of a beggar’s smile

the flogging bark of a morning dog

 a sparrow

on a swinging branch

feeding a leaf

Thursday, 15 July 2021

 tomorrow

we shall go to the sea

again

 hot corn field

on the path crossing through

wood pigeons clapping

 St Swithin’s Day

and the world is on fire

how many more days?

 a red admiral

then a cabbage white

soon the moths

 sunset

the crows on the roof

turn red

sunset shadows

the crows’ fluttering

on my window

 in the dictionary

discombobulated by the simulacrum

i look up thesaurus

 deep

in the woods

a sapling

 seaside

a boat sails through the trees

nearly there

 in this book

of the beggar

i smell vinegar

 how playful

the way my eyes go bouncing

over the flowers

 flowering

all around the Buddha

this morning

Wednesday, 14 July 2021

 a coal sack

drawn across the mussel beds

burning in the sun

 breathless

running up the steps i stop

to talk to a fly

 a coal sack drawn

across the mussel beds

burning in the sun

taking a child to the limit removes the limit

 so far up the tree

the cat has taken her claws

to my fear

 tooth extraction day

too tired to find my smile

tomorrow maybe

Tuesday, 13 July 2021

 motorbike

a long way off

in the night

Monday, 12 July 2021

 i would never

step on the thin ice

of my poems

 floaters

reflections of leaves

in the fish pond

 summer evening

squirrelling away sunshine

for a winter’s day

 suburbia

two garden chairs

a rotary line

 empty chair

i sit on the cat

good try

the cat smells a funny colour

Saturday, 10 July 2021

 unforgiven

the clove of garlic

in the cat’s water

 Yugen

all alone

although i like visitors

i also like the rain

my feet under

the waterfall

over my feet

        "zero hope"

all the dammed tears

         collapse

petrichor

steaming from the pavement

summer rain

children

hanging the sky

upside down

bridge of my nose

between thumb and forefinger

a dark well

summer meadow

a profusion of look look

wild flowers

contributaries

thoughts becoming a renku

as the saké flows

there is nothing as stupid as a stupid fly

mum kissed my plaster

and the tears ran backwards

just in time

 the sleepy cat

and the door fly

ask to go out

          "zero hope"

all the dammed tears

           collapse

 i wrote a poem

on a tree stump

it was rotten

Friday, 9 July 2021

 meadow gate

i take a pee on a fly

surprise surprise

 overgrown path

i take the nettle sting

for a long walk

 boardwalk

in the middle of the marsh

many feet

 the bramble

in the woods

have pink flowers

 prince anachronism

for the moths of the monarchy

the candle is snuffed

 sitting here

a news flash of a car crash

sitting here

life - well i ask you

we ride this breeding machine

and then we fall off
